SUSTAINABILITY

At Harvey & Brockless we are committed to minimising the effect that our business practices have upon the local and wider environment. Whilst we comply with all the relevant regulatory requirements, we also aim to go beyond this. We are continuously looking to implement measures that will improve our own sustainability performance, as well as that of our supply-chains.

OUR CURRENT EFFORTS

SITES

We have purchased 100% renewable energy tariffs and Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates (REGO’s) for our electricity meters at our two production sites in London and Evesham, as well as for another meter at our main distribution site in Worcester.

While purchasing REGO’s is big step forward in terms of cutting down our scope 2 emissions, at Harvey and Brockless we understand the significant additional benefits that come with generating on-site green energy. This is why we installed Solar PV at our site in Evesham. By installing on-site solar PV, we are ensuring that we have access to clean and renewable energy to power our operations.

We are also always on the lookout for ways to cut down on our energy us. For example, we recently installed Emissis Coolnomix Energy Optimisers on our refrigeration at our site in Evesham. This technology is estimated to save 75,339 kWh of electricity and 16 tonnes of C02e from being emitted at this site each year.

TRANSPORT

Our vehicles are equipped with advanced telematics and tracking systems that optimize routes, improve fuel efficiency, and promote green driving. We're committed to using technology to enhance our services and reduce our environmental footprint. Our modern fleet boasts the latest Euro 6 emissions standards, ensuring a greener, cleaner journey. Our meticulously maintained vehicles are always in peak condition, providing you with reliable and efficient transportation.

Harvey & Brockless are committed to moving away from combustion engine vehicles. We’re excited to announce that we have leased 3 Ford E-Transit Chassis Cab’s with Electric Refrigeration. These are expected to arrive in 2025. By investing in electric technology, we're taking a proactive step towards reducing our environmental impact and providing our customers with cleaner, greener transportation options.

MATERIALS & WASTE

100% of the waste that comes from our operations is now diverted from landfill. We are working with the waste management firms that deal with our waste to ensure that our waste is being utilised most effectively.

We are proud to have teamed up with The Felix Project, a London charity fighting hunger and food waste. In the first quarter of this collaboration, we have donated £23,000 worth of food to support local food banks, schools, and charities. This collaboration enables us to cut down on food waste, whilst also supporting our local community.

We try to use the minimum amount of packaging to ensure that waste is kept at a minimal. We offer a delivery service to customers using re-usable crates, which greatly reduces our use of tertiary packaging. Some crates have now been reused over 900 times, which in comparison to single-use cardboard boxes, cuts down on waste, conserves resources, and minimizes our environmental impact.

PROCUREMENT

SUPPLIERS

At Harvey & Brockless, we are committed to ethical, sustainable, and diverse sourcing.

We ask our suppliers to sign our screening form, aligning themselves with our sustainable and ethical commitments. We also ask them to fill out our sustainability questionnaire so that we can assess and track their sustainability performance.

We are dedicated to sourcing from a diversity of suppliers, including those from underrepresented groups. This is why actively report on the number of suppliers we source from each minority-owned category.

DEFORESTATION

In line with dynamic deforestation legislation, we are committed to doing our due-diligence and ensuring that all suppliers that supply us with goods containing high risk commodities such as cattle meat, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, and wood are able to demonstrate that these commodities are sourced from deforestation-free areas.

PRODUCT SPECIFIC C02e

We are committed to reporting on both the direct and indirect emissions that result from our operations each year. As part of this commitment, we look to improve the activity data that we use year-on-year to account for these emissions.

To achieve this, we are working towards sourcing product specific CO₂e per kg/litre data where available for the goods that we source from our suppliers.
